REQUESTING A BIRTH, DEATH OR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE:

Birth Certificates

• Births: 1867 to present-index starting 1893. The records are restricted and are NOT public records and can only be obtained by the individual or the parents of the individual either in person or through the mail.
  
  
• An heir may apply for a copy of a birth record LESS than 100 years old if they provide; a death certificate and a photo ID is required.
  
  
• A birth record MORE than 100 years old is NOT restricted and can be requested by anyone.

Death Certificates

• The Houghton County Clerk’s office has death certificates for individuals who died in Houghton County. Death certificates are public records and may be viewed by anyone. You will need to provide the name and date of death for the individual record. 
  
  
• Deaths: 1867 to present-Index starting 1911
  
  
  

Marriage Certificates

• Marriage licenses are public records and can be obtained by anyone. You will need to provide the names of the parties as well as the date of the marriage.
  
  
• Marriage: 1855 to present-All indexed
